3 Considerations Before Buying a New Ceramic Cookware Set

First, we have to be honest about the budget. There is no need to spend a huge amount of money on a ceramic cookware set. There are plenty of options on the market that have good quality for an excellent price.

Ceramics usually is an inexpensive material, especially if you compare it with stainless steel or aluminum. This makes it a good candidate as starting cookware set for new cooks out there.

Secondly, it is important to take into account the size of the set. If we have a big family or we are used to cooking for a large number of people –let’s say more than 6 in your table– the diameter and the number of pieces are important.

Sometimes we see a ceramic cookware set in photos and when it arrives at our home we realize the pots are so small for a soup or the pans don’t allow more than two pieces of meat. Be mindful of sizes.

And finally but not least, we have to compare the durability and quality. Endurance is one of the weakest points of ceramic cookware. It doesn’t hold up to the test of time as well as other materials like cast iron or stainless steel. A high-quality ceramic pan will last a maximum of 5 years even with proper care and minimum use.

This happens because of the nature of a ceramic coating. This coating is actually not made of ceramic –shocking I know — in reality it’s made of silicone dioxide, that when heated, slightly sheds the top layer releasing the food. So, every time you use your pan you are wasting a tiny bit of coating and progressively losing the nonstick properties.

The final decision always relies on personal preferences, but we can give you the tools and advice to choose the right set that accommodates your needs.

Top Ceramic Cookware Set of 2023

1. –GreenPan Reserve Hard Anodized Healthy Ceramic Nonstick

Starting this list strong,  The reserve line of GreenPan is on the high-end spectrum when talking about ceramic cookware.

I’ve been using GreenPan in my kitchen for years and that’s why it’s included on my best sauteé pan and best frying pans lists.

So for a good ceramic cookware set that will last you longer than the average (around 7 years with good care I would say), this is my best recommendation.

It’s one of the few ceramic-coated sets that I would allow an occasional metal utensil without worrying it would scratch.

Also, it has a contemporary design with gold-tone handles that add a luxury touch.  It comes in 8 colors so you don’t have to stick with just a black set.

What’s included in this set?

This set doesn’t have as many pots and pans as others on this list but it comes with a 2-quart saucepan with lid, 6-quart stock pot with straining lid, 8-quart stock pot with lid, 8” and 11” frying pans, 2.8-quart sauté pan with lid.

Why do we recommend this set?

  • Duoforged hard anodized armored body. This makes it extra durable and warp, wobble, and scratch resistant.
  • Dishwasher safe.
  • Oven and broiler safe up to 600°F /315°C. An incredibly high temperature that I assume you won’t be using on a daily basis unless you like your meat charred.

What are the cons of this set?

  • Pricey for a ceramic set
  • Few pieces
  • Non-stackable. You can ruin the coat if you try to store them stacked one on the other.
