Calphalon Ceramic Cookware Review— It is reliable?

Sharing is caring!

Hello Cookware Geeks around the world!

Calphalon is a well-known brand that for many years has brought to the market very reliable cookware sets and kitchen tools. Their stainless steel cookware set lasts for a long time without losing its initial shine, and it’s basically one of the best when it comes to this material.

But, what about the Calphalon Ceramic Cookware? Well, that´s the question that I will try to answer in this article.

As soon as this set comes out on the market, I have promised myself that I will have it. The main reason is pretty simple: Calphalon is one of the most reliable brands on the market, and previously I’ve fallen in love with their sets and… IT’S CERAMIC! What else can I ask for?

First, Where is Calphalon Made?

This is a really common question. Many of the consumers are aware that the place where the cookware is manufactured is a good indicator of quality.

Calphalon has its main factory in Toledo, Ohio. The company has 4 outlet stores in the US, where their products are available. Two of the stores are in Texas while the two others are located in Massachusetts and California.

The majority of their products are made in the USA. Some of their accessories are made in China. Either way, you can find where each piece is made on the label.

So, what are the interesting features of this set?

100% Safe: One of the advantages of a high quality ceramic coating is the lack of toxic fumes that with other kind of material can be released when overheating accidentally a pan.

It is PFOA- and PTFE-free, cadmium and lead free too. You will be covered on the safety aspect.

Easy food release: These pans pass the omelet challenge whit a high qualification. Absolutely nothing sticks to the surface, and for that reason the cleaning is a breeze.

You won´t need any kind of oil to prepare your dishes. So, if you’re looking for a healthy choice this can be useful information.

Energy efficient: One of the strongest points of the Calphalon Ceramic Set is how quick the pans heat. Also the surface heats evenly and you will never have problems with hot spots that burn part of your meal.

Classic- looking: As I expected from Calphalon the exterior of the set hasn´t let me down. It only comes in one color, a glossy and shiny black that contrasts with the white ceramic coating. The pans feel good on your hands. The handles increase this comfort; they´re made of silicone and are soft and resistant, which I believe is the best combination. Also the handles stay cool while you’re cooking.

The weight is the right one, not too heavy and not extremely lightweight. The set doesn’t look cheap at all.

In my opinion, I would like it more if the set came in different colors, since some of us like the bright colors.

Good amount of pot and pans: Some 10 piece sets that are really good often comes with a lot of accessories and tools, but in the end there are only two pans and one pot for soup. That is kind of disappointing. But with the Calphalon Ceramic Cookware set I was pretty satisfied with the amount of pieces. This maybe is not the set that can completely equip your kitchen, but it includes 6 pots and pans for different purposes:

  • 8 inch Fry Pan
  • 10 inch Fry Pan
  • 1 qt. Sauce Pan & Cover
  • 2 qt. Sauce Pan & Cover
  • 3 qt. Sauté Pan & Cover
  • 5 qt. Dutch Oven & Cover

But we all know that everything can´t be bright…

What are the cons of the Calphalon Ceramic Cookware set?

Warranty: This is not a big deal, since for me a 5 years warranty is a bit short. Other brands like WearEver offer you a life-time warranty. The least that I´m expecting of a cookware warranty is about 10 years. But as I’ve said maybe it isn’t a problem for you.

Durability: This is the big concern with this set. Before making this review I check a lot of customer’s reviews, trying to see how this set has been working for different people. The main issue that they have with this set is that the nonstick ceramic coating doesn´t last that much. Some of the customers affirm that after six month of daily use the coating starts to peel off the pans.

But, I have to make a little disclaimer. I can assure that if you use the right tools –silicone and wood kitchen tools- you can prolong the lifetime of any ceramic pan. Also you should avoid the dishwasher, even when most brands claim to be dishwasher safe. The heat will damage the exterior and the coating after some prolonged use.

Now, the durability of this set is not equal as others Calphalon sets. I don´t think that you can use these pans daily for more than three years without a peeling or discoloration. This is kind of disappointing. But as you may know, ceramic is the least durable material. The good part is that usually this type of set isn’t expensive.

Conclusion

This a good nonstick ceramic set. It´s easy to clean, heats evenly, it´s sturdy enough and has the good looks. It also has the classic elegancy of a Calphalon set. You will get a full set that covers the basic needs of a kitchen.

The only problem is the durability, which is not a big surprise on a ceramic set, as they usually don’t last so much.

So, if you don´t have problems changing your cookware set more often and in return getting a completely nonstick experience, this set is for you.

I’ll see you soon with more reviews!
