Copycat Ikea Meatballs

My sweet and beloved Ikea.

I love going to Ikea… Will (A.k.a the boyfriend) not so much. Still, it is my personal Disney World: home decor, pillows, candles, flowers, beautiful dishes, kitchen gadgets and cute things in general.

My entire house is a constant reminder of how much I love Ikea. The dishes you see in my pictures… oh yes, Ikea again!




And every time I go to my dreamland I eat the same thing: 12 Swedish meatballs with sauce, a chocolate and caramel cake, and a cold beer. E-ve-ry-ti-me.

That meal just completes my ritual after buying new cute things for my home.

These meatballs are rich balls of mixed pork meat with beef meat in a creamy sauce. For me, they are unique and special.




The downside is that usually there are two kinds of reaction for these Swedish meatballs: You love them or you hate them. There is no in between. I know some people that just smelling these meatballs makes them lose their appetite, and other like me that can eat 12 of these beauties in just one sit.

Servings: 24 meatballs
  • 200 gr pork ground meat
  • 200 gr beef ground meat
  • 1 medium egg
  • ½ onion cut into small cubes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ cup of breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp butter
For the sauce
  • 2 cups meat broth
  • ¼ cup cream
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  1. In a big bowl mix all the ingredients except the butter. Mix until the paste is homogenous and smooth.
  2. Make small balls of meat.
  3. In a big pan heat the butter and cook the meatballs until they are brown on the outside.
  4. Remove the meatballs and in the same pan add the broth, the cream and the flour dissolved previously into the milk. Stir until the sauce is thick enough.
  5. Serve the meatballs covered in the godly sauce and enjoy!
