These bacon-wrapped little smokies are easy, quick and a crowd-pleaser. They are a hit in any party or social gathering. One of my favorites appetizer recipes. Only 4 ingredients!
When it comes to finger food for a party I like my recipes as easiest as possible. In real life, I’m not a Martha Stewart that has 4 hours to make over-complicated and fancy canapes. Probably, I only have 30 minutes —because I tend to let everything for the last minute — to fill my table with something for my guests.
That’s why I fill this blog with recipes that can be used in our busy everyday life.
How to make bacon-wrapped little smokies with brown sugar
Everybody knows that brown sugar and bacon are the most delicious food pairing on this earth. I even have a full recipe dedicated to making brown sugar bacon in the oven.
So for my bacon-wrapped cocktail weenies, I MUST use brown sugar to get the most out of the bacon. But, do you know what else will make them even more special? Cayenne pepper.
Sweet and spicy crispy bacon. This is the maximum level of flavor for an appetizer. I dare you to eat just one of these bad boys!
To start making these bad boys I cut the bacon slices into three same-size pieces (as you can see in the pictures).
With the help of a wood toothpick, I wrap each of the little smokies with bacon.
On a plate, I mix the brown sugar and the cayenne pepper. Mix well and coat all the wrapped weenies with the spicy sugar.
Take them to the oven at 180ºC (350ºF) for 10 minutes, flip them to cook them evenly for 10 more minutes. Let them chill before serving, this way they won’t stick to one another.
Variations
The fun part of this recipe is that you can make a subtle variation with some sauces like BBQ, Honey Mustard, Sriracha, etc.
Just brush a bit of sauce on top 5 minutes before taking them out of the oven. The sauce will turn into a glaze and, there you go, BBQ bacon-wrapped cocktail weenies.
